Guide To Your Next Headshot Session
Are you curious about what a headshot session with me will look like? Do you wonder what you should bring?
Before every recent headshot session, I’ve gotten the inevitable questions about what to expect and how to prepare for it. You’re in the right place to get an answer to your questions. In this blog post, I will answer some of your frequently asked questions to help you prepare for your next headshot session.
Headshot sessions take place at my in-home studio; I will greet you at the door and show you to my studio. If you bring extra outfits, I will show you where you can put them and then take a few minutes to chat with you about the progression of the shoot.
What should I wear?
I primarily use a white background and suggest you wear solid colors that are not too bright. Weather permitting, we will also use my backyard and take a few snaps outdoors. Short or long sleeve tops work best, and tank tops should be avoided. Bring a few choices to the shoot, and don’t forget accessories. A headshot is supposed to put attention on your face and not the clothes you wear. But the most important thing to remember when picking your outfit for your headshot session is to wear something that makes you feel confident and comfortable.
How should I style my hair?
Come with your hair clean and styled how you would naturally wear it. Be sure to bring a hairbrush and hairspray to tame flyaways and test out different hairstyles during the shoot. Having some hair accessories on hand, like a headband or barrettes, is also helpful.
Should I wear make-up?
It’s best to keep your make-up natural and minimal, especially for actor/model headshot sessions. Bring your make-up bag with you; we can always add and change the look during the shoot. If you are getting business/professional headshots, wear your make-up as you would at work. It’s always good to bring a bit of setting or translucent powder to touch up during the shoot.
How long is each session?
I always schedule at least one hour for each session. This is because I want you to feel relaxed and not rushed.
How and when do I pay?
Full payment is due the day of your session. You can pay me via Venmo, Zelle, check, or cash.
How long does it take for me to get my gallery delivered?
I tell all my clients that it can take up to two weeks for me to deliver a gallery of edited images. But it rarely takes that long. :)
I hope this gives you a better idea of what to expect before, during, and after a headshot session. Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have that this post did not answer!
I look forward to working with you and capturing your next fantastic headshot.
Snappily yours,
Susi
