K is for knee #atozchallenge April 2019
K is for knee, a bum one with a torn meniscus.
Ashley has had knee problems for a few years. She never had a specific incident where we could say, ah, yes, that’s where she got insured. Lately, the pain had intensified, so upon the recommendation of our pediatrician, I took her to an orthopedic doctor, who after an initial visit and then an MRI of the knee, confirmed that she has a torn meniscus which requires surgery.
We sought a second opinion, just to be sure and that doctor confirmed the diagnosis almost verbatim.
Ashley being Ashley, she takes things to the next level and we are not just dealing with a “regular” torn meniscus, as in a vertical tear, as is more common in kids her age. No, Ashley’s meniscus is torn lateral which for a person her age is an unusual injury.
Surgery is scheduled for next week. She’s anxious. I’m anxious. And we are keeping our fingers crossed that the surgery will be successful and her recuperation normal.
All good thoughts are welcome!
